2014 FIFA World Cup: The Standout Match in the Knockout Rounds

The Round of 16 kicks off at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Saturday afternoon and this is where the excitement of the World Cup ratchets up! Hosts Brazil lead 4 other South American nations into the knockout rounds. Also USA, Mexico and Costa Rica are flying the flag for CONCACAF. Matches, times and locations are below:

  • Brazil vs Chile, Saturday 28 June, 12:00pm Eastern, Belo Horizonte
  • Colombia vs Uruguay, Saturday 28 June, 4:00pm Eastern, Rio De Janiero
  • Netherlands vs Mexico, Sunday 29 June, 12:00pm Eastern, Fortaleza
  • Costa Rica vs Greece, Sunday 29 June, 4:00pm Eastern, Recife
  • France vs Nigeria, Monday 30 June, 12:00pm Eastern, Brasilia
  • Germany vs Algeria, Monday 30 June, 4:00pm Eastern, Porto Alegre
  • Argentina vs Switzerland, Tuesday 1 July, 12:00pm Eastern, Sao Paolo
  • Belgium vs United States, Tuesday 1 July, 4:00pm Eastern, Salvador

Italy v Uruguay: Group D - 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

The biggest match out of these eight is Colombia vs Uruguay because of the absence of Luis Suarez and Colombia has been on an absolute flyer since the competition began. First, Uruguay struggled against Costa Rica without Suarez. He’s since been banned from the World Cup, barred from making contact with the national team, cannot enter the Maracana and has been sent home. Meanwhile, Colombia’s James Rodriguez and Jackson Martinez provide the force and endavor in the attacking third. I believe Colombia will advance 2-1 with the aforementioned scoring for Colombia while Diego Forlan scores for Uruguay.
