The wait is almost over NBA fans. The NBA Finals match up between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors is being dubbed as “The Trilogy” by fans across the nation as anticipation rises. This monster match up pits two super teams against each other in what has the potential to be one of the greatest Finals series in history.
Golden State appears to have the slight edge in talent due to the addition of Kevin Durant. When looking at their starting lineup their scoring power is very apparent. The Warriors have four NBA all-stars in their starting lineup which will surely put fear into the hearts Cavalier fans and players alike. What remains to be seen is how well Warriors guard Stephen Curry will perform. In the past two NBA Finals Curry has under performed which has raised questions about his mental toughness. Perhaps the bright lights of the NBA finals were too bright? Being on the NBA’s biggest stage will give Curry the chance to dispel those thoughts.
When analyzing the Cavaliers you have to admire their abundance of veterans. Their bench boast the likes of Deron Williams, Channing Frye and Kyle Korver. All of those players have the talent to start on plenty of NBA teams so it is definitely a luxury for Cleveland to have their presence on the bench. Having viable veterans on the bench gives Cleveland’s starters more time to rest instead of logging heavy minutes. It may seem minor but bench depth may be the deciding factor in this series.
Although all this works in Cleveland’s favor they undoubtedly will play the role of underdogs in this series. If Cleveland has any chance of winning LeBron James will have to play at a historic level. Golden State on the other hand will lean on a multitude of stars to bring home the championship. Ultimately I believe the addition of Kevin Durant will be too much for the Cavs to overcome. My final prediction is Golden State winning the series 4 -2 with Kevin Durant securing his first Finals MVP award. The Cavs will surely put up a great fight but eventually will succumb to Golden States high powered offense. Yet if any player could pull off an upset of this magnitude it would be LeBron James. Fasten your seat belts NBA fans this series is sure to be on heck of a ride.
