Atlanta United Football Club announced they will play their home games at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Georgia Tech until Mercedes-Benz Stadium is ready for its new tenant.
According to reports, the Georgia Tech Athletic Association will receive a total of $1 million from Atlanta United. Included will be $45,000 rent per match, $275,000 for accommodations and $350,000 to convert the field for soccer. All of those dollar amounts were made available through an Open Records Request.
Some members of the Atlanta United Founder’s Club expressed their displeasure with the team playing some of their games at Bobby Dodd while Mercedes-Benz Stadium is still under construction. However, Atlanta United made sure they found a venue that would give fans the sight lines and place them close to the action.
Tomorrow, Atlanta United will unveil their new kit (jersey, shorts and socks combinations) at the Tabernacle to their Founder’s Club members at 6:30pm. It is anticipated Atlanta United will utilize a vertical red and black stripe look similar to the iconic AC Milan kit in Italy. The kit sponsor, American Family Insurance, is expected to be in gold.
There will be a block party downtown before the unveiling.
The Atlanta United kit has been designed and produced by Adidas. Adidas is the official kit producer for Major League Soccer. After the unveiling, the kit will be available for sale at the official team store, ATLUTD.com and MLSStore.com.
