Can Atlanta United Keep the Good Times Rolling?

The number one team in the Eastern Conference meets the number one team in the Western Conference tonight at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, as Atlanta United Football Club faces off against Sporting Kansas City. Atlanta United comes in with 22 points and riding an eight match unbeaten streak. Meanwhile, SKC has 20 points coming off a 1-0 win against Colorado.

Atlanta has been unbeaten since switching to a 3-5-2 and many sides have tried to park the bus against the 5 Stripes. That has allowed the talents of Hector “Tito” Villalba, Ezequiel Barco, Miguel Almiron and Josef Martinez to shine. Against the Chicago Fire, Darlington Nagbe shone as a box-to-box midfielder as his linkup play between he and the attackers unlocked the Chicago defense.

“We’ve been on such a good run, we don’t want to throw it away in one week,” said Atlanta United captain Michael Parkhurst. “If we started the week bad, it could go south pretty quick. Anytime you have that and a quick turnaround, now we get ready for Kansas City and it’s going to be a tough one at home. They’re probably the best team in the West, or one of the best teams in the West.  It was a challenge against them last year and we kind of eeked out a result against them last year. So hopefully we will have a much better performance in front of the home crowd.”
