“Do you like men?”
This was the question that was asked to former LSU Tigers running back Derrius Guice during an interview at the NFL Scouting Combine. Derrius gave this tidbit to SiriusXM NFL Radio Wednesday night and Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio confirmed Guice received that question, we just don’t know which team asked it.
This isn’t the first time that a players sexuality has come into question. Back in 2016, New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple said the Atlanta Falcons asked him the same question.
“The Falcons coach, one of the coaches, was like, ‘So do you like men?’ It was like the first thing he asked me. It was weird. I was just like, ‘no.’ He was like, ‘if you’re going to come to Atlanta, sometimes that’s how it is around here, you’re going to have to get used to it.’ I guess he was joking but they just ask most of these questions to see how you’re going to react.”
In 2018, a lot of people, including myself are unsure why this would be a topic of conversation especially if a player isn’t out. Not only is this an highly inappropriate question, it also and who doesn’t have any impact on his ability to play ball. That wasn’t the only gross question he received. Guice said another reporter asked if his mom “sells herself.”
“I go in another room, they’ll try to bring up one of my family members or something and tell me, ‘Hey, I heard your mom sells herself. How do you feel about that?'”
Whoever asked him these questions needs to reprimanded. There is no place for these types of ridiculous questions in the NFL or any other sports organization.
