Fans Favorite Fan attended the Martin Luther King Jr. Day matinee college basketball games in Morrow, Georgia at Clayton State University. The women’s and men’s basketball teams played against UNC Pembroke. A special 1:30pm tip-off was set for the Lady Lakers versus the Lady Braves. Energy was high for this game and both teams played tough until the end. Clayton State went into the half leading 49-35 and the Lady Braves could not get it together offensively in the second half.
As reported by Clayton State’s Sports Information Director Joshua Darling, Lakers Senior center DaQuenna Moore was one of four Lakers in double-figures, finishing with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals while redshirt-junior guard Tierra Johnson and senior guard Kenisha Jones-Barrett each had 13 points and four steals. The Lady Lakers beat the Lady Braves 78-60.
As the Lady Lakers walked off the court to greet the men’s basketball team on the court fans stood up all over the gym to cheer for both teams. The Lakers came out blazing as they maintained a double-digit lead most of the first half against the Braves. In the second half, UNC Pembroke played hard to keep the lead at a single digit and closing in with 8 seconds left in the game were able to cut the Lakers lead to 4 points. Clayton State would beat UNC Pembroke 84-80.
Lakers Junior forward Alfonso Davis led the way with 22 points, eight boards, four blocks, a pair of assists and a steal in 28 minutes while Senior guard Saiquan Terry knocked down four threes on his way to 21 points shares Clayton State shares Clayton State SID Joshua Darling
Both games were great to see, fast-paced and fans came out in the cold weather to support their teams. Clayton State University recognized all service men, women and students in the crowd during halftime of both games. It was an honor to be amongst some of the greatest individuals who have fought for our freedom.
