Quavo aka Huncho Jack who is one third of the famous rap trio, Migos, celebrated his birthday in grand style by hosting a celebrity flag football game at his high school alma mater. This was a free event for the community and Berkmar High School that also had a carnival, an easter egg hunt and football drills for young players. The weather was the perfect backdrop for a perfect day.
Quavo and sports go hand in hand seeing as he played football at his high school and participated in the 2018 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game during the All-Star Weekend and took home MVP honors. So it made sense to host a celebrity flag football game. Team Huncho coached by 2 Chainz versus Team Julio coached by none other, Julio Jones himself.
Who all was in attendance? It was nothing but Hip-Hop and NFL star power. There was Offset, Lil Yachty, Lil Baby, Rich The Kid, 21 Savage, YFN Lucci, Trouble, Alvin Kamara, A.J. Green, Von Miller, Ezekiel Elliott and Josh Norman. Yes, Takeoff was in attendance but didn’t play. My overall experience was a great one. Logistically, it could’ve been better.
I saw Quavo post about the game on his IG but that was it. There was no information whatsoever so when I got to the school, they were asking for parking passes and tickets. Mind you, I was a part of the media but I still had no idea what was going on so I know the general public was clueless. There wasn’t a link added for more information. If this is going to be an annual event, there needs to be more information given. How to obtain tickets, parking passes, etc.
I noticed the concession area wasn’t open until a couple of hours after the start of the event and it was a grand opening and grand closing because they ran out of food. Luckily I ate before I got there otherwise I would’ve been up a creek because once inside there wasn’t any re-entry. They did have the Rap Snacks van there giving snacks but I missed out on the snack attack only getting a bag of the Migos popcorn…white cheddar with a dab of ranch. I have to find this popcorn because it was good!
The Clark Atlanta band performed during half time but I don’t think anyone was truly paying attention. Which is sad because they put on a great show. So many people were on the field and this can’t go on if there is a next time. It was a bit chaotic. There has to be a designated area for the entourages, family and friends. Huncho Day wasn’t just an entertainment event, it was also a sporting event and it showed that the sports side of the logistic coin was neglected.
The good outweighed the bad in the grand scheme of things. There were plenty of things to do for children of all ages and interests. Huncho Day was a huge success and I’d like to see more events like this from Atlanta entertainers. While I’m here, I’d like to shout out to the person in charge of the decorations. The Huncho Day picture wall and the flower tree in Easter egg hunt space was gorgeous. Personal touches make a big difference.
Team Julio won the game 12-6. It was a fun day had by all. Happy Birthday Quavo! I’m looking forward to the next Huncho Day.
