Wednesday, the Atlanta Hawks announced that they’re bringing much need changes and upgrades to Philips Arena. It’s the second-biggest redesign of an NBA arena, behind the recent remodeling of Madison Square Garden. With a price tag of $192.5 million dollars, the Hawks are definitely about to swag Philips Arena out. Renovations will take about 18 months to complete just in time for the 2018-2019 season which is the Hawks 50th anniversary in Atlanta.
The renovations include removing the six-level wall of suites on the west side of the arena allowing for new amenities on every level of the building, installing a new state-of-the-art center-hung scoreboard and video displays, and revamping the concourses with 360-degree connectivity and a reimagined eating and drinking experience featuring new open food stalls and bars throughout.
Atlanta rapper and Hawks fan, Killer Mike will be bringing bring his signature Graffitis SWAG Barbershops to Philips Arena. The name stands for “shaves, washes and grooming,” and the shop will have a view of the on-court action.
Will you be living the suite life? There will be two new Topgolf Swing Suites with golf simulators making Philips Arena the first to offer the Topgolf Swing Technology. Date night anyone?
Philips Arena will have the first NBA courtside bar. Hawks CEO Steve Koonin spoke to CNN about the bar and had this to say. “You literally will be 10 feet from the action while you’re having your cocktail and standing and talking with your friends. The day of sitting in your seat, eating your hot dog and having a beer are gone forever. It’s about socialization and a great night out.”
I’ve always said time and time again that the Atlanta Hawks knows how to give their fans the ultimate fan experience and with these new upgrades it’s going to be a new LIT fan experience. I love that they’re tearing down the walls and bringing openness to the arena. These renovations will surely put other team arenas to shame. I’m super stoked and can’t wait until everything is complete. She’s always #TrueToAtlanta.
