First half of the game was lead by UGA basketball JJ Frazier was the leading scorer with 9 point for UGA Mercer basketball team had 12 team fouls and the free throw line is what managed to keep UGA in the lead Jordan Strawberry was their leading scorer with 7 points the score at the half was 32-23
The second half was very exciting as UGA and Mercer ended the game tied 51-51. Mercer’s Jordan Strawberry hit a three pointer to tie the game and we begin the first overtime of the night at Stegeman Coliseum.
In the first overtime Mercer’s Jestin Lewis hit a three pointer immediately to shift momentum towards the Bears! UGA kept their composure and during this first overtime both teams were scoring back and forth. UGA’s Charles Mann put the Dawgs upfront 62-60 with a minute left in the game and Mercer’s Jordan Strawberry tied the game with a jumper. 62-62 and we head into the Second Overtime!
Although UGA’s Marcus Thornton was able to tip the ball in for two points the Bears answered back with a Stephon Jelks three pointer. Jelks was later injured in the second overtime with an injury to his knee. Mercer’s Jestin Lewis put the Bears up 72-69 over UGA but they would soon answer. UGA’s Djurisic hit his first free throw shot but missed his second one. It would be a layup by UGA’s Charles Mann to send the game into it’s third overtime.
In the third overtime, it was apparent that the Mercer Bears lost momentum. UGA went on a 6-0 scoring run against the Bears and eventually won the game 86-77. UGA looked like a team that will go the distance for a win and it was obvious in their three overtime win over the Mercer Bears.
UGA leading scorer was Charles Man with 22 points and he was 8 of 17 from the Free throw line. UGA will play against Kansas State on December 31st on ESPNU.
